Dear Robin, my husband and I rescued Murphy from your organization a little over a year ago. We just wanted to update you on how he’s doing: Murphy spends his day lounging in his dog house with his two favorite toys. He gets two long walks a day that he looks forward to with great enthusiasm. At night he settles in to a warm, cozy bed for a restful night sleep after a long hard day of playing and kisses. Murphy is a happy young man. He is spoiled rotten and loves his new human little brother. We are so blessed to have such an awesome dog. Here are a few pictures: Happy Holidays! Rescue note: These lovely people are what all rescues are looking for: seeing the wonderful side of a dog and look beyond some imperfections as opposed to demanding the perfect dog w/o a hair out of place. After all, we're not perfect either!

Gia is more filled with love and thankfulness than you could imagine. She's seldom more than a few feet away from one of us. Always coming to us with a big snuggle. She socializes (nose licking) through the fence with the dogs next door. She bounds and jumps around, like a puppy. She came to us with some baggage, but also brought love and genuine affection. She's a snuggle bug and seems almost desperate for affection, which we love to give her. We are with her almost 24/7 and enjoy every minute of it.This morning Ginger decided the way to show affection was to put her four paws up on the breakfast table. We are thankful that the people who looked at her before could not see beyond her slight defects and did not see the lovely attitude and desire to please. The gentleman that brought “Flick” the day of the adoption said that he and his foster family had changed his name to “Harley Von Davidson” which was totally appropriate for our family considering we own (2) Harleys, and now a four legged one. I have attached a photo of Harley and as you can see he is already spoiled rotten. We have had nothing but good luck with him, only (2) accidents in the house, and for the most part when we are home, he doesn’t chew on anything. However…….when we are not home, he does like to dig and chew. He is still a “pup” so I am hoping he will eventually grow out of that stage. On September 27th my husband and I had a list of about 15 dogs we wanted to walk and visit that Saturday morning. All the volunteers were so wonderful and helpful, especially because my list of dogs was so long :o) After about 10 dogs, there were a few I had picked in my head, but then I saw another couple walking a dog named Lucky. I had read about Lucky the night before, he had a high prey drive and couldn't be around cats or pot belly pigs. I didn't want a dog with a strong prey drive because of all the small children and cats we lived around. There was something about him though. Immediately after the other couple was done walking him, my husband and I did. I immediately went back and asked to adopt him before the other couple had a chance to :o) As I write this I have a beautiful Boy named Dutch (aka Lucky) sitting at my feet sighing loudly because he wants some attention. I love him, my husband loves him. I have had 3 dogs in my life and they have all had formal training, Dutch still has not, and Dutch knows more tricks, is better behaved and listens better than all my other dogs in the past. As far as the prey drive is concerned, it's practically non existent, a couple strong "NOs" when cats were around on walks and he's over it. Hes been around all ages infant-elderly, big dogs, small dogs, he gets along with them all! Can you believe that? He is so smart and so well behaved! Even more surprisingly Dutch was adopted before by another couple and given back to Westside! Are you kidding me!?!! I cant believe someone would give this dog up, there is no better dog, more loyal dog, and no cuter a dog than our Dutch! We are the "Lucky" ones. Just wanted say hello and share a new pic of Emma (aka Sylvie). It's been 5 months since we met and she has come a looong way! She has put on 40 pounds and doing so much better I can actually leave her home for 4hrs now!!!! Baby steps:) She is so sweet and her favorite times are just hanging out with mom, 2nd the bark park with her friends...she even says "I love you"! I thought that you would like to see some pictures of one of the GSD's you rescued 4 years ago. One picture is of Kage on the Malibu Pier, which is a nice place to visit when we go into the center of Malibu. The other picture is of Kage getting some schutzhund exercise in our backyard. Kage loves to "schutzhund." When we are in the house and I say "dumbbell" she roots around in her toy bin and pulls out the Schutzhund I dumbbell. I then say "kure," which means "give it to me" in Japanese and she puts it in my hand. I then say "boru" which means either "ball" or "bowl" in Japanese, but to Kage it just means "ball," so she digs around in her ball box and pulls out a ball (to keep the word sounds distinct, Kage's bowl is referred to as "dish" - she gives me her dish after she eats so I can wash it). I think I am the luckiest guy in the world to have Kage live with me. Regards, Bruce Hartenbaum

As you can see, she is way too stressed out :-) She has it made since Growler doesn't like to sleep on the pillow beds even though I bought one for each. She has been known to sneak over to Growler's bed and pull it next to hers and sleep on both. They are complete opposites but inseparable. They love to go with me in the car and Mimi (aka Midnight) has finally stopped barking when I leave them in the car. However, once I'm out of sight, they both move to the front seat where they can see better - I guess. Maybe by coincidence but they take turns sitting behind the wheel while the other sits in the passenger seat. It has attracted smiles and picture taking from people passing the car. We're busy training her as she was not house broken nor leash trained - she was good on the leash initially but now wants to run. She is smart and learns quickly. We had a good laugh as she is identical to Growler when it rains. I open the door, she goes out until the first drop of rain lands on her nose; then there is a U-turn and back into the house. I guess she figures sugar melts. Bob Harmuth

We adopted Lola von Steiner in the Spring of 2005 from your rescue. She is a wonderful dog and loves everyone. She has become a mother to our young Boxer and she is the sweetest dog in the world. We have moved to Northern California and she loved the drive from Long Beach. She actually loves everything for that is who she is. Lola was once a very skinny dog with a very narrow back but no longer. She is a beautiful German Shepherd who is truly loved. We thought you would want to know this. Thank you for making our lives so happy.

Here are some pictures of Ranger (aka, Puca) and Ziggy (Valentino). We are so happy we made the decision to adopt our dogs. They have brought so much happiness to our home, our lives wouldn't be the same without them. We would also like to thank Anja for being a great person. When she found Ziggy in the rain she didn't look the other way, like a lot of people do. Instead she opened her home to him and helped him find the life he should of had a chance to live. We would also like to thank Denise for allowing Ranger's mother to have her babies in her loving home, and not in a shelter. All of you at Westside German Shepherd Rescue are truly remarkable people, you don't even blink when it comes to helping others in need. Its good to know there are still people out there watching out for the ones that don't have voices. You are truly their angels. Thank you again for saving our babies.
